Every child is unique and responds to life in his or her own special way. Personality issues, daily challenges or life changes
can cause distress a young person doesn’t know how to handle. They may show this distress in one or a number of the following ways:
Defiant Behavior Anger/Irritability
Emotional Outbursts Alcohol/Drugs/Sexual Involvement
Anxiety Self Mutilation
Non-Medical Aches and Pains Eating Problems
Perfectionism Poor Choice of Friends
Sleeping Problems Withdrawal/Depression
Low Self-Esteem Poor School Performance
A young person’s distress can be caused by a combination of internal and external factors; personality, puberty, daily challenges
or unexpected life changes can cause difficulty and emotional pain. Family upheavals such as divorce, remarriage, illness or
the death of a loved one can cause distress. Experiences such as rejection by peers, learning problems, or conflicts with a teacher
can also cause distress. Sometimes, a child’s personality and the way he or she approaches daily life just isn’t working well.
Parents see their child’s distress but don’t always know how to help.
The One of a Kind Counseling Program provides experienced, caring counselors who identify the causes of the child’s distress,
help the child heal and develop better coping skills. Parents are coached on effective communication methods and parenting approaches
that fit the personality and emotional needs of their child.
Every child is unique. Like a tree that needs certain conditions to thrive and grow to its full potential,
